DETOX - What is a detox ?

There has probably never been a greater need to detox the body, due to the age we live in as there are now 60,000 MORE chemicals being exposed to the average person on a DAILY basis than only 50 years ago.

Clothing, fabrics, carpets and furniture are all pre-treated which all add a toxic load to the liver. Couple these with chemicals used within the household – there’s a different cleaning product for just about anything – and food additives, colourants, preservatives, fizzy drinks, herbicides and pesticides… Phew! It’s little wonder that the body can reach overload.

Couple this with a sugar intake 1000 higher than only 100 years ago and it’s little wonder that Type 2 diabetes is the fastest growing disease of the modern age. Note that it is no longer referred to as “Adult Onset Diabetes” as children as young as 5 are now being diagnosed.

Our bodies naturally detox every day. Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. There is natural cycle of movement in and out of our cells of Potassium / Magnesium plus Sodium / Calcium.

However, in our world today, body systems and organs that were once capable of cleaning out unwanted substances are now completely overloaded, and this leads to many unwanted substances remaining in our tissues. Sodium and Calcium can become misplaced in the body and this can lead to an acid build up in the cell – and cellular acidity levels are the known trigger for cancer and many major diseases.

Our bodies try to protect us from harmful material by setting it aside, surrounding it with mucus or fat, so that it won’t cause imbalance or trigger an immune reaction. (Your body stores foreign substances in its fatty deposits- a significant reason to keep your body fat low. Some people carry up to 15 extra pounds of mucus that harbours this waste!)

In an ideal world, we would live in a pollution-free environment, eat untainted foods and drink pure water. However, this simply doesn’t happen, so the next best thing is to keep pollutants to a minimum and to periodically get rid of them through a detoxification programme.

Why should you Detox ?

Detoxification may be the missing link to disease prevention, especially for immune-compromised diseases like cancer, arthritis, diabetes, candida and fatigue syndromes. Our chemicalised-food diet, with too much animal protein, too much fat, too much caffeine and alcohol, radically alters our internal ecosystems. Even if your diet is good, a cleanse can restore body vitality against environmental toxins that pave the way for disease-bearing bacteria and viruses.

Industrial pollutants, pesticides, additives in our foods, heavy metals (including amalgam tooth fillings), anaesthetics, residues from drugs, and environmental hormones are trapped within the human body in greater concentrations than ever before. Research has shown that we are now exposed to 60,000 more chemicals on a daily basis than the war generation, and these affect every system of our bodies, from tissue damage to sensory deterioration.

Many chemicals are so widespread that we are unaware of them. But they have worked their way into our bodies faster than they can be eliminated, and are causing allergies and addictions.

A highly processed food diet, a severely unbalanced diet or simply too much food can overburden elimination systems. Lack of exercise contributes to toxicity, too. The body’s natural cleansing cycle of oxygen and vital nutrients depends upon exercise. A stagnant system encourages toxic build-up.

Almost everyone can benefit from a cleanse. It is one of the best ways to remain healthy in a destructive environment.

The Route to Detox

The body has a set route of detoxification – and the whole route has to be supported for the detox to be successful.

Cell – Lymph – Blood – Liver – Small Intestine – Bowel & Kidneys

The Cell

Everything starts and ends at cellular level. When a stress hits the body, it affects the cell membrane which is largely composed of water. The body demands more water to deal with the stress and if the hydration level within the cell membrane is not correct, the brain issues a “dehydration alert”.

Cholesterol will be made and deposited around the cell membrane, sealing in any water content. This will reassure the brain (Central Nervous System), that there is enough water in the body to cope with the stress.

However, the cholesterol strands around the cell will act like a waxy coating, thus impeding any movement across the cell. The cell at this point will be compromised in how it releases toxic waste or absorbs the correct amount of nutrients and water.

The longer the cell is not hydrated, the more cholesterol strands are deposited and this only inhibits movement to a greater degree. The waxy coating around the cell will effectively repel water, thus creating further dehydration. The cycle is in full flow. Dehydration = stress = dehydration = stress etc.

Causes of stress (dehydration):

When the cell is stressed, the pH of it is gradually altered to a more acidic state. The cholesterol impedes the light transference between cells (all cells communicate through light & colour). This results in disconnection of the cells – they can’t respond as well as they used to. Many people are “stuck” in this situation. They have a very good diet, but nutrient absorption will be compromised. Cellular resonance will be affected, with the cell’s electro-magnetic frequency being altered.

The RejuvaSlim, Bio-Resonance and Ionithermie machines help the cell detox

The Role of Lymph in Detox

The lymph system in our bodies is the leader of toxin removal. Its jobs are to “mop up” debris, dead cells and toxins and carry them to the blood stream for elimination by the body, and also to carry food to the tissues in the form of fats, proteins and hormones.

The system consists of nodes and glands and is closely aligned to our immune system, where a congested lymph system can lead to serious illness, as toxin removal is compromised.

The lymph itself is a fluid which is non-cellular in formation, as is blood. There is more lymphatic fluid in our bodies than blood, and it should be able to flow into every tissue of our body to get to work with toxin and dead cell removal.

The flow of the lymph is governed by muscle movement – it is not pumped around the body by the heart, as is blood. If muscle movement is slow, sluggish or compromised, then lymph flow to and from the tissues is also compromised, resulting in a congested system.

The best way to get lymph moving is the up and down movement. Therefore, skipping and trampolines are excellent for lymphatic drainage. However, the RejuvaSlim and Ionithermie machines do this all for you!

Lymphatic drainage can be booked as an individual 40-minute session or alternatively, is already incorporated as part of RejuvaSlim or Ionithermie sessions.

Liver

Liver is the King of Detox and has over 500 functions within the body.

A sluggish liver will not make the correct decision re toxicity and will defer to placing the toxic waste in a fat cell, rather than removing it to the bowel.

Therefore, a liver cleanse diet is essential in supporting the liver to make the decision to break down the fat cell, rather than make new ones! RejuvaSlim incorporates a full liver cleansing eating plan.

Bowel

We have been built with our own waste disposal unit, and so many people have trouble maintaining it to a healthy standard. This is the most common problem we see in the clinic and to have unhealthy bowels, leads to lack of detoxifying the body, sluggish liver, fat storage, low metabolism, headaches etc.

It is one of the main focuses within a detox programme, because a slow bowel will lead to the liver being forced to put the toxic waste back to the cell, instead of it leaving the body.

We see this all the time with yo-yo dieters, and the people who get a sugar craving 2-3 days into starting a diet, and give up.

Kidneys

Liver gives all excess minerals, amino acids, vitamins to the kidneys, together with any residue of medication or bacteria. Kidneys have to work harder in detox and we regularly check the pH of the kidneys to check that acidity being released from the cell is being neutralized.

This is what we support you with at The Barn Clinic – and most people leave us empowered with knowledge of their own bodies that they had not known before.

Our aim is to give you the opportunity of tuning in to your body and its functions, allowing you to continue with your lifestyle and be more enlightened in how to maintain a healthy body.
